Passkeys

A passkey lets you sign in to TrakIT with your fingerprint, your face or your device’s PIN, instead of typing your user ID and password. Your device keeps the passkey, and it works only with TrakIT, so it can’t be stolen by a fake sign-in page.

On the Passkeys page you register a passkey for the device you are using, and remove passkeys you no longer need. To open it, select the fingerprint icon (Manage Passkeys) in the top bar. The icon appears only if your TrakIT installation lets you sign in with a passkey.

To sign in with a passkey once it is registered, see Sign in with a passkey.

Register a passkey on each device you want to sign in from. You need a browser and device that support passkeys: see Browser support.

  1. Open the Passkeys page on the device you want to use.
  2. Optional: in Passkey Name (Optional), type a name that tells you which device it is for, for example Work Laptop.
  3. Select Register Passkey.
  4. Follow your browser’s prompts, and confirm with your fingerprint, face or device PIN.

TrakIT shows Passkey registered successfully!, and the passkey appears under Registered Passkeys. If you don’t type a name, TrakIT names it after your browser, for example Chrome Passkey.

  • The browser’s prompt waits about a minute. If you cancel it or let it time out, nothing is saved; select Register Passkey to start again.
  • TrakIT doesn’t let you register a second passkey with the same device or password manager: the browser tells you that it is already registered.
  • A passkey works only on the TrakIT web address where you registered it. If your company uses more than one address for TrakIT, register a passkey on each.
  • To register another passkey after registering or deleting one, reload the page first. Otherwise TrakIT says Page expired. Please refresh and try again.

Signing in with a passkey replaces your user ID and password only. If your user has two-factor authentication, TrakIT still asks for a one-time code. See Two-factor authentication.

Registered Passkeys lists your passkeys, oldest first:

Column Shows
Name The name you gave the passkey, or the one TrakIT gave it.
Registered When you registered it, in your time zone.
Last Used When you last signed in with it, or - if you never have.

Check Last Used now and then: a passkey you don’t recognize, or one for a device you no longer have, should be deleted.

Delete a passkey when you lose or replace the device, or stop using it.

  1. On the passkey’s row, select the red cross (Delete Passkey).
  2. In Delete Passkey, confirm.

TrakIT shows The passkey was successfully deleted. You can no longer sign in with that passkey. Deleting it in TrakIT does not remove it from your device: remove it there too, in your device’s or browser’s passkey settings, so that you don’t choose it by mistake. If you do, the sign-in page says Passkey not recognised. Please sign in with your password.
