Yard moves

The Yard Moves page lists the moves carried out in one container yard: containers coming in and going out at the gate, moves inside the yard, and work on containers and their cargo. From here you find a move and open it, link moves to work orders, update several moves at once from an Excel file and export the list.

To open it, select Yards > Moves.

Moves are usually recorded with the Device app, at the gate and in the yard. This page lists only moves that have been carried out (executed). Moves that are planned but not done yet are on Yard planning. Each move opens on the Yard move page, and the moves linked to a work order are also listed on the work order’s Yard Moves tab. For a yard’s work from start to finish, see Running a yard.

The list at the top chooses the yard. It offers the container yards that have at least one zone and whose Company Access includes one of your companies; system administrators see all container yards. TrakIT remembers your choice.

If no yard is available to you, the page says No yards accessible or found. Yards and their zones are set up under Admin > Masters > Warehouses & Yards: see Setting up warehousing.

The tabs above the filters group the moves by kind:

Tab Move types
– All Moves – Every type of move. This tab appears only if your role has all of Gate Operations, Equipment Moves and Cargo Operations.
Gate Moves Gate In and Gate Out: containers and trucks coming into the yard or leaving it. Needs Gate Operations.
Equipment Moves Moves inside the yard: In Stack, On Truck, On Rail, To Customs, For Repair, To CFS and Reposition. Needs Equipment Moves.
Cargo Ops Work on containers and their cargo: Cargo Inspected, Stuffing, Stripping, Stuff Partial, Strip Partial, Status Change, Weighing, Cleaning, ReeferIn, ReeferOut and Seal Confirmation. Needs Cargo Operations.

The list shows the move types as in this table. The Move Type filter names a few of them differently: Gate-In, Gate-Out, In-Stack, On-Truck, Cargo Inspection, Reefer Plugged (ReeferIn in the list) and Reefer Unplugged (ReeferOut). On Rail has no entry in the filter.

TrakIT opens the page on the tab you used last. Changing the tab resets the filters.

App, at the right of the tabs, opens the Device app in a new tab.

  1. Select Filters to open the filter panel, if it is closed.
  2. Enter or select the filters you need.
  3. Select Search.

The number of matches appears above the list, for example 125 Found. Reset clears the filters. TrakIT remembers most of your filters for the next time you open the page.

Filter Finds
Move Type The move types to include, from those of the tab. All are selected when you open the page. The check icon selects all or none.
Container or job reference Any part of the container number, or of the job reference of the linked work order. The label uses your company’s short name for the job reference, for example Container or B/L.
Work Order ID The moves linked to that work order.
Zone Any part of the name of the zone.
WO Link Linked or Not Linked: moves with or without a work order.
Direction Import, Export or Other. [Set] finds moves with any direction, [Not Set] those without one.
Full/Empty Moves of full or empty containers.
Mode Truck or Rail.
Cancelled Exclude Cancelled, Cancelled Only or Include Cancelled.
Executed After, Executed Till Moves executed between the two dates and times, in your time zone. You can leave either one empty.
Move Data Moves where a yard move data field matches. Choose the field (the list offers the fields set up for all move types), then type any part of its value in Value.
Container Size 20’, 40’ or more, or No Container/Size, for example for a truck. All are selected when you open the page.
Interface Status On installations that send yard moves to an external system: Failed, Success, Any (sent, whatever the result) or Empty (not sent).
With Photos Only moves with at least one photo.
WO Data Moves linked to work orders whose data matches. Choose the data field: the list offers the data of the workflows linked to the yard, plus First Depot, Last Depot and Seal No.. Then choose a Search Mode (Partial Match, Exact Match, Not Like, Empty, Not Empty or Number Range) and enter the Search Text. For Number Range, choose an option in Select Option, such as More Than or In Range.
Multi-Value Search A list of up to 100 Move ID, Container or Work Order ID values, separated by commas, semicolons, tabs or new lines. Choose the kind of value first. The clear icon empties the box.

Select Skip Count to skip counting all the matches. The search is faster on large results, but it fetches only the first page, so you cannot move to other pages. When the page is full, the count ends with +, for example 20+ Found. TrakIT remembers this choice.

The list shows 20 moves per page, the most recently executed first. Cancelled moves are shown in red.

Column Shows
Move ID The move’s number. Select it to open the move in a new tab.
Executed When the move was carried out, in your time zone. A cancelled move has a no-entry icon next to the time.
Container The container or truck number. Select it to open the container on Container master.
Type The container type and its type code, for example 20’ - General [22G1], or -.
Move The move type. See the tabs.
Direction Import, Export, Other, or - when not set.
Full/Empty Whether the container was full or empty.
Mode Truck or Rail, or -.
Workflow The workflow of the linked work order.
WO The linked work order, which opens the work order. The pencil (Modify Work Order) links or unlinks a work order: see Select Work Order.
Services The services of the linked work order.
Job reference The job reference of the linked work order. The heading uses your company’s short name, for example B/L.
Zone The zone of the yard.
Position The position in the zone, or On Truck when the move has none. A red map pin shows the move location.
Data fields The yard move data fields set up for all move types with Display on, for your company.
Photos How many photos the move has.
Remarks The move’s remarks.
User Who executed the move, or System for a move recorded by TrakIT itself or by another system, for example with ExecuteMove.

The copy icon in the heading of the Move ID and Container columns copies the whole column.

If a move was recorded with its location, a red map pin (View Location) appears next to its position. Select it to see on a map where the move was recorded. The popup’s title gives the move, for example Location - Move ID 1234. Select Close to close it.

Select Export to download the moves that match the filters, on all pages, as an Excel file. It appears when the list has moves and your role can export yard moves. The export is limited to 10,000 moves: with more, TrakIT asks you to refine your filters.

The file has the columns Move ID, Container, Executed, Type, Move Type, Direction, Mode, Full/Empty, Position, Workflow, Work Order, Services, the job reference, Zone, Bay, Row, Tier, Executed By, Vehicle Num, Remarks, Reference, Damage, CMR, Grade and Dirty, followed by all the yard move data fields set up for all move types. The move and work order IDs link to TrakIT.

A move is linked to the work order of its container, so that it appears on the work order’s Yard Moves tab and can update the work order. When you link an executed move, TrakIT also:

  • fills the event of a yard move trigger, if the work order’s workflow has one for this type of move, full or empty: see Setting up warehousing;
  • links the container’s later moves inside the yard (In Stack, On Truck, On Rail, To Customs and Reposition) that have no work order yet, up to the next move of another type or with a work order.

The work order must belong to a workflow linked to the yard, on the workflow’s Warehouses & Yards tab, and be for the same container. Otherwise TrakIT says Cannot link to this Work Order. It must also:

  • be active or abandoned: otherwise TrakIT says Cannot link to a closed or cancelled Work Order;
  • belong to one of your workflows: otherwise TrakIT says You do not have access to this Work Order’s workflow. System administrators can link work orders of any workflow.

The move must be in a yard of one of your companies: otherwise TrakIT says The move is not in one of your yards. Your company can also have its own checks that stop a link with a message, and its own actions that run when a move is linked or unlinked.

To link one move, or change or remove its work order:

  1. In the WO column, select the pencil (Modify Work Order) of the move.
  2. In Select Work Order, select the work order. To remove the link, select Unlink Work Order.
  3. Select Update.

TrakIT says Work Order linked successfully or Work Order unlinked successfully. Close closes the popup without changing anything.

The popup lists the work orders that match the move, newest first, with their WO ID, job reference, Created date, Workflow, Services, Carrier, Customer and Last Event. A work order matches when it:

  • is active or abandoned, not closed or cancelled;
  • is for the same container;
  • belongs to a workflow linked to the yard, and to one of your workflows (for system administrators, any workflow);
  • has a workflow type that fits the move’s direction: an Import workflow for an import move, an Export workflow for an export move. Round Trip and Non-Shipment workflows match any move, and they are the only ones offered for a move without a direction.

On some installations, the matching follows rules set up for that installation. If no work order matches, the popup offers only Unlink Work Order.

Link WO… links or unlinks many moves in one go, from a list of move and work order IDs.

  1. Select Link WO….

  2. In Link Work Orders, enter one pair per line in ID List: the Move ID, then the work order ID, separated by a comma, a space or a tab. To unlink a move, enter 0 as the work order ID. For example:

    1234,5678
    1235,7654
    1236,0
  3. Select Link Moves.

TrakIT processes each line and writes the result after it, for example 1234,5678: Success, then says how many lines succeeded. Correct the lines that failed and select Link Moves again: the earlier results are ignored. Select Cancel to close the popup.

Result What to do
Success The move is linked, or unlinked for 0.
Move ID invalid or not found, Unable to load move Check the move ID.
Missing WO ID, WO ID is invalid or missing Add the work order ID after the move ID, or 0 to unlink.
WO is already linked The move already has that work order, or no work order for 0. Nothing to do.
Cannot link to this Work Order The work order is not for the move’s container, or its workflow is not linked to the yard.
Cannot link to a closed or cancelled Work Order Use an active or abandoned work order.
You do not have access to this Work Order’s workflow Use a work order in one of your workflows.
The move is not in one of your yards The move is in a yard of a company you do not have access to. Check the move ID.

Linking or unlinking a move here has the same effects as with Select Work Order.

Auto Link WO is shown next to Link WO…, greyed out: it cannot be selected. Link moves one at a time with Select Work Order, or several at once with Link WO….

Bulk Update changes details of many moves at once, from an Excel file. You mark the cells to apply by highlighting them in yellow, so one file can hold more columns than you change.

  1. Prepare an Excel file (.xlsx), as described below.
  2. Select Bulk Update.
  3. In Bulk Update Yard Moves, select the file under MS-Excel File (.xlsx).
  4. Select Upload.

TrakIT says File uploaded. Results will be emailed to you., processes the file in the background, and emails you the result of each row, titled Yard Move Bulk Update.

The file:

  • TrakIT reads the first visible worksheet. The first row holds the column headings.

  • The first column must be Move ID (or ID): the moves to update.

  • The other columns can be in any order. TrakIT ignores spaces and capitals in the headings:

    Column heading Changes
Executed (or Executed Date) When the move was carried out: a date and time in your time zone, as an Excel date and time or as text such as 2026-09-25 14:30. As on the move’s page, it needs Backdate Move, it can be changed only on an executed move, by up to 7 days either way, and it cannot be earlier than the container’s previous move or later than its next move.
    Direction Import, Export or Other.
Truck No (or Vehicle No) The vehicle number, saved in capitals.
Seal No (or Seal) The seal number, saved in capitals. It cannot be emptied on an executed Stuffing move of a container.
The name of a yard move data field That data field of the move, checked as on the move’s Data tab.
  • Highlight each cell to change in yellow, the standard yellow fill of Excel. TrakIT ignores cells that are not highlighted, and rows with no highlighted cell. A highlighted empty cell empties the vehicle number, the seal number or the data field.

  • The file can be up to 2 MB.

The email lists each row processed, with its move ID and the result: Updated, the data fields updated, or why a cell or row was not applied, for example:

Result What to do
Invalid date, Invalid direction, followed by the value Correct the value.
Move not found Check the move ID.
The move is not in one of your yards The move is in a yard of a company you do not have access to: remove the row.
Backdate Move permission denied Your role cannot change Executed: remove the yellow fill from those cells.
Executed can only be changed on an executed move The move is planned: remove the yellow fill from its Executed cell.
Executed Date/Time cannot be changed by more than 7 days Choose a time within 7 days of the time already saved.
[Unknown column: …] TrakIT does not recognize the heading: correct it.

TrakIT runs one bulk import or update at a time, across all its import pages. If another is running, TrakIT says which, who started it and when: wait and try again.
