Translation cache
TrakIT can produce documents, such as invoices, vouchers and quotations, in a language other than English. The application itself stays in English: only the generated documents are translated. The Translation Cache page lists the translations TrakIT has kept for those documents, so that you can correct a wrong one.
To open it, select Admin > SysAdmin Pages > Translation Cache. Only system administrators can open it.
How translations are made
Section titled “How translations are made”A form has a Language. When TrakIT generates a document from a form whose language is not English, it translates:
- the headings of the accounts table on invoices, bills, quotations and receipt and payment vouchers, such as the column headings and totals (with the form’s Table Display set to Both Names, the English heading is shown above the translation);
- the “generated by” footer of the PDF;
- any text the form marks for translation with the
{{TRANS-C:...}}code.
The first time TrakIT needs a phrase in a language, it asks Google’s translation service and keeps the answer in the cache. After that it uses the cached translation, so a correction you make here is used in every document generated from then on. Documents already generated do not change.
Some text is translated each time and never kept in the cache, so it does not appear here: amounts
in words, dates, data values, and text marked with the {{TRANS-X:...}} code.
Account names are not translated: they show the local name set for each account in Finance masters.
The translations
Section titled “The translations”- Choose the language in the list at the top of the page. The page opens on the first language in the list, Arabic.
- To narrow the list, open Filters, type part of the English text in English Phrase or of the translation in Translation, and select Search. Reset clears the filters.
The list shows 20 translations per page, in alphabetical order of the English phrase:
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| English Phrase | The English text. |
| Translation | Its translation in the chosen language. |
| Updated By | System for a translation TrakIT got from the translation service, or the user who last corrected it. |
| Updated On | How long ago it was added or last corrected. |
The languages offered are Arabic, Danish, French, Georgian, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Spanish, Thai, Portuguese and Ukrainian, each shown with its own name, for example French - français.
Correct a translation
Section titled “Correct a translation”- Select the translation’s row. Modify Translation opens, with the English Phrase and the Language.
- Change the Translation, up to 800 characters.
- Select Save.
TrakIT says Translation updated successfully.
To have TrakIT translate the phrase again from scratch, select the cross (Delete Translation) at the bottom left of Modify Translation. There is no confirmation. TrakIT says Translation deleted successfully, and asks the translation service again the next time a document needs the phrase.
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Translation is required | Type a translation, or delete the entry instead. |
| Translation contains possible html tags or disallowed text | Remove characters such as <, or =, + or @ at the start. |
Each correction and deletion is written to the User Action Log as Translation Updated or Translation Deleted.
