Equipment move

The Equipment Move screen of the mobile app records a container moving inside the yard: into a stack position, onto a truck, to customs, to repair, to the CFS, or to another zone. You can also record the equipment that moved it, such as a reach stacker.

To open it, on Yard operations, open the Equipment tab and:

  • select Add Move to record a new move, or
  • select a planned In-Stack or On-Truck move to complete it or carry it out.

Back returns to Yard Operations without saving. New moves are made in the yard you chose on Yard Operations. For how equipment moves fit into a yard’s work, see Running a yard.

  1. Choose the Move Type: see the table below.
  2. Choose the Zone the container goes to. On-Truck moves have no zone. Choose the zone before the container: changing the zone clears the Container.
  3. Choose the Container. The list offers the containers in the yard, with their length or type code, for example ABCU1234560 - 20.
  4. Fill in the fields of the move type: Vehicle # for On-Truck, Damage for For Repair.
  5. For a move into a stack, select the stack under Position: see Position.
  6. If you record them, choose the Asset Type and the Asset.
  7. Add Remarks if useful.
  8. Select Execute to carry out the move, or Save to keep it as a planned move.

Save and Execute appear once a container is chosen. Once a move is saved, its move type and container cannot be changed. When you choose the container, TrakIT looks up its last move carried out in this yard; if there is none, it says Last Move Error with Could not load last executed move, and clears the container.

Move type What it does
In-Stack Puts the container in a stack position in the zone.
On-Truck Puts the container on a truck, for example to take it to the gate or to another part of the yard. It stays in its zone. Vehicle # is needed to execute it.
To Customs Puts the container in a stack position, like In-Stack, for example in a customs zone.
For Repair Moves the container to the zone chosen, and records the Damage.
To CFS Moves the container to the zone chosen, for example to be stripped or stuffed at the container freight station.
Reposition Moves the container to the zone chosen.

The list offers these move types only if your role has Equipment Moves: otherwise it shows only —.

Field What to enter
Move Type The kind of move.
Zone The zone of the yard the container goes to. Not shown for On-Truck.
Container The container or truck to move.
Seal No.(s) Shows the container’s seal, if TrakIT has it. You cannot change it here.
Vehicle # On-Truck only: the truck’s number, up to 20 characters.
Asset Type, Asset The kind of equipment used for the move and the equipment itself, for example a reach stacker. The asset types are those set up by TrakIT Support for yard moves; the assets are the active ones of that type in your companies. TrakIT remembers your choice for your next move.
Damage For Repair only: the damage to repair, up to 100 characters.
Remarks Any notes about the move.

Work Order Information shows the work order of the container’s last move in this yard, if that move was linked to one: the move is linked to the same work order. The box is green and shows the WOID (select it to open the work order in a new window), the Workflow, the job reference, the carrier, the Commodity and the Weight. The job reference and carrier labels are your company’s names for them, for example T/D. Otherwise the box is yellow, with No matching Work Order found; a work order can be linked later on a computer, see Link or unlink a work order.

For In-Stack, To Customs, For Repair, To CFS and Reposition moves into a zone with stack positions, Position shows a drawing of the zone seen from above:

  • The bays are numbered across the top (B01, B02 and so on) and the rows down the side (R01, R02 and so on). Each box is a stack.
  • An empty stack is light grey. A stack of 20-foot containers is blue. A stack with a 40-foot or longer container is dark red and twice as wide, as such a container takes two bays. Disabled positions are left blank and cannot be used.
  • A stack with containers shows the last five characters of the top container’s number, and its tier in brackets if it is above the ground, for example 34560 (2).
  • Select a stack to choose it: a dashed blue outline marks it. For a 40-foot container, the outline covers two bays. If the container does not fit there, for example a 40-foot container in the last bay of a row, the outline disappears and no stack is chosen.

When an In-Stack or To Customs move is carried out, TrakIT puts the container on the lowest free tier of the stack you chose. Only these two move types put the container in a stack position. The other move types take the container out of its stack position, if it has one. If every tier of the stack is taken or disabled, or you chose none, TrakIT says Position is required: choose another stack.

A zone with No Positioning shows no drawing: the container goes into the zone without a position. A zone without positions set up says No positions available. The stacking rules, the yard’s Default Zone for a taken position, and zones that take only full or only empty containers are described in Warehouses & yards and Running a yard.

  • Save keeps the move as planned. The screen shows the saved move, which you can carry out later from the Equipment tab of Yard Operations. Planned moves are also listed on Yard planning.
  • Execute carries out the move. TrakIT returns to Yard Operations and says Move executed successfully. If yard forms are set up to be generated automatically for this move type, the screen instead stays on the move, opens the Files tab with the new documents, and opens the newest one for printing.

When the move is carried out, the container is recorded in the zone chosen, and TrakIT carries its grade, dirt status and, except on For Repair moves, its damage over from its last move. If the move is linked to a work order, TrakIT fills the work order’s yard move trigger event for this move type, if its workflow has one: see Warehouses & Yards tab.

Once the move is carried out, the screen shows it read-only, with its move ID, when it was carried out and by whom, for example Move ID: 1234; Executed 14:05, 30 Oct 2026 by Sam Lee. A move cancelled afterwards on a computer also shows, in red, who cancelled it and when. To correct or cancel an executed move, use the Yard move page on a computer.

The Files tab lists the documents of the move, generated from your company’s yard forms. It is empty until the move is saved.

To generate a document on a saved move:

  1. Choose the form in Forms. The list offers the yard forms set up for this move type in this yard: see Form definitions.
  2. Select Generate.

The document is added to the list as a PDF. Without a form chosen, TrakIT says Please select Form. You can generate documents on planned and executed moves.

The list shows 10 files per page. Select the download icon (Download Document) to save a file, the magnifying glass (Preview Document) to open it, or the printer icon (Print) to print a PDF file or a picture. Title and Uploaded By show its title, and who added it and when; a wider screen also shows the File Name, Type, Status, Expiry and File Size. You cannot add or delete files here: use the Files tab of the Yard move page on a computer.

Permission Denied Your role cannot save or carry out yard moves: see Who can use this page.

If the screen cannot open, see In the mobile app. For example, Authorization Failed with The move is not in one of your yards means the move belongs to a yard of a company you have no access to, and Invalid Resource with Unable to load Move that the move does not exist, or is not an equipment move.

  • Your user needs the PWA access mode, and Yard Ops in your PWA menu access: see Yard operations.
  • The yard must belong to one of your companies.
  • Your role needs these permissions in the Yard Moves section:
Permission Allows you to
Read Open the screen and see moves.
Equipment Moves Choose the move types.
Plan Moves Select Save, together with Create or Update.
Execute Moves Select Execute, together with Create or Update.
Create Generate documents with Generate, and have the automatic forms generated when you execute a move.

Save is greyed out without Plan Moves, and Execute without Execute Moves.
