Geofence log
The Geofence Log page lists the geofence events of all locations: each time a tracked asset or user entered the geofence of a location, left it, or stayed inside longer than allowed.
To open it, select Admin > Logs > Geofence Logs.
The same events are on the Geofence Log tab of each location, and those of one asset on its Geofence Logs tab.
What creates a geofence event
Section titled “What creates a geofence event”A geofence is a circle around a location, with a radius from 10 to 1,000 metres, set on the location’s page. Locations are listed on the Location list.
Each time TrakIT records a position for a GPS-tracked asset, or for a user sharing their position from the TrakIT app, it compares the position with every location that has a geofence:
- Entry: the position is inside the geofence, and the last entry or exit recorded for that asset or user at that location was not an entry.
- Exit: the position is outside the geofence, and the last one was an entry.
- Overstay: the asset or user is still inside, and has been for longer than the Overstay Limit of an overstay trigger on the location. With repeated alerts, one is recorded at every multiple of the limit, up to the trigger’s maximum.
Entries and exits are recorded at every location with a geofence, whether or not it has triggers. Overstays are recorded only at locations with an overstay trigger. The triggers, which fill in work order events and notify users, are set up on the location’s Geofence Triggers tab.
Every 5 minutes, TrakIT processes the new events: it acts on the location’s triggers of that type, then marks the event in the Notification column.
TrakIT deletes events older than the period set for the geofence log on Data retention policy.
