User statistics
The User Statistics page shows how TrakIT is used: how many sign-ins there are and by how many people, when they sign in, for how long, through which channel and browser, and from which countries and cities. It also lists the accounts that nobody has used in the period.
To open it, select Admin > SysAdmin Pages > User Statistics. Only system administrators can open it.
What is recorded
Section titled “What is recorded”TrakIT records each sign-in: the user, the time, how they signed in (the web browser and its version, the separate TrakIT app and the device, the API, or an AI assistant), and the address the sign-in came from, with the city and country looked up from that address. Each later request of the session updates the time of its last request. The page builds every figure from these records:
- a sign-in counts once, however long the session lasted;
- a session lasts from the sign-in to its last request, not to signing out, so closing the browser without signing out still ends it at the last request;
- a new user is one whose first sign-in ever, through any channel, falls in the period.
Choose what to count
Section titled “Choose what to count”The filters at the top apply to every tab. The page updates as soon as you change one, and your browser remembers your choices and the tab you used.
| Filter | Choose |
|---|---|
| Period | Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 3 months, Last 6 months, Last 12 months (the default), Last 2 years, This year, All time, or Choose dates… with From and To. |
| Signed in through | Web (the web application, in any browser, on a computer or a phone), Mobile App (the separate TrakIT app), API (other systems signing in to the TrakIT API, which can sign in many times a day) and AI (AI assistants). API is not ticked to start with. Tick at least one. |
| Users | Internal (your own staff), External (external users of the portal) and Support (TrakIT Support accounts). Support is not ticked to start with. Tick at least one. |
Below the filters, the page gives the period, the previous period of the same length it is compared with (except for All time), and your time zone. Days are your days: dates are in your time zone.
Headline figures
Section titled “Headline figures”| Figure | Shows |
|---|---|
| Sign-ins | The number of sign-ins, with the change from the previous period. |
| Active users | Users who signed in at least once, with the change from the previous period. |
| New users | Users whose first sign-in ever was in the period. |
| Users per day | The number of different users signing in each day, averaged over every day of the period, weekends and holidays included, with the busiest day. |
| Typical session | The median session length: half the sessions were shorter, half longer. Below it, the hours signed in, in all. |
| Inactive accounts | Unlocked accounts of the ticked user types that did not sign in through the ticked channels in the period, out of all unlocked accounts. Select it to list them. |
Under the figures are five tabs: Activity, Users, Time of Day, Channels & Browsers and Locations. On most charts, select Table to see the figures as a table, and Chart to go back.
Activity tab
Section titled “Activity tab”Activity per day, week or month shows two charts, one under the other: Sign-ins, and Active users, the number of different people signing in each day, week or month. Choose Day, Week or Month; the page picks one to suit the length of the period, and Day is not offered for a very long period. A dashed line runs to a week or month that the period only partly covers, whose figures are therefore lower. The table also gives the New users of each day, week or month.
Users who have signed in
Section titled “Users who have signed in”Users who have signed in at least once shows, over the period, how many users have ever signed in: the number before the period, and how it grows as new users sign in for the first time.
Users tab
Section titled “Users tab”Active users lists the users who signed in during the period, 50 at a time; select Show all for the rest. Type in Find a user, company or place to narrow the list, and select a column heading to sort by it.
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| User | The user’s name and user ID. A lock marks a locked account. Select the name to open the user’s record, which has the full log of their sessions. |
| Type | Internal, External or Support. |
| Company | The user’s company. |
| Sign-ins | Their sign-ins in the period. |
| Active days | The days on which they signed in. |
| Time signed in | The total length of their sessions. |
| Average session | The average length of a session. |
| Last sign-in | When they last signed in during the period. |
| Last location | The place their last located sign-in came from. |
| Channels | Icons for the channels they used. |
Inactive accounts lists the unlocked accounts that did not sign in during the period, with their Type, Company, the date the account was Created, and their Last sign-in through any channel, at any time, or Never.
Select Download CSV above either list to save it as a CSV file.
Time of Day tab
Section titled “Time of Day tab”Sign-ins by weekday and hour is a heat map of the sign-ins, with one row per weekday and one column per hour. The hours are in each user’s own time zone, so 09:00 means nine in the morning where that person was. The cells are shaded from Fewer to More sign-ins, as the key below the map shows. Point to a cell to see its count, or select Show numbers to show the counts in all the cells. Busiest hour gives the busiest weekday and hour.
Sign-ins by hour of the day, day of the week, day of the month or month of the year counts the sign-ins for each hour, day or month. Choose Hour, Weekday, Day of month or Month. Not every month has a 29th, 30th or 31st, and a period shorter than a year covers some months more often than others.
Channels & Browsers tab
Section titled “Channels & Browsers tab”| Chart | Shows |
|---|---|
| Sign-ins by channel | The sign-ins through the web, the separate TrakIT app, the API and AI. |
| Web browsers | The sign-ins from each browser. Select a browser to see its versions, and All browsers to go back. Microsoft Edge and most other browsers built on Chrome report themselves as Chrome. Needs Web ticked. |
| Mobile devices | The sign-ins from the separate TrakIT app on each device model, as the app reports it. Needs Mobile App ticked. |
Each chart shows the 12 largest, and folds the rest into Other; its table lists them all, with the number of sign-ins, their share and the number of users.
Locations tab
Section titled “Locations tab”Countries shows the sign-ins from each country. Select a country to see its cities, and All countries to go back. Busiest places lists the cities with the most sign-ins, across all countries.
The place is looked up from the address each sign-in came from, so a VPN or a mobile network can put it in another city or country. Sign-ins from a private network have no place, and count as Unknown.
Who can use this page
Section titled “Who can use this page”Only system administrators can use this page. It checks that you are one, rather than a permission in your roles: other users who open it see Authorization Failed.
