Yard planning
The Yard Planning page lists the moves planned in a container yard that have not been executed yet: containers expected at the gate, moves to make inside the yard, and work to do on containers and their cargo. Use it to see what is coming, export the plan, and change the planned zones and positions of many moves at once from Excel.
To open it, select Yards > Planning.
Once a move is executed, it leaves this page: executed moves are on Yard moves. To execute moves at the gate or in the yard, use the Device App, or Yard Ops in the mobile app. The App button, next to the tabs, opens it in a new tab.
Where planned moves come from
Section titled “Where planned moves come from”A move is planned, rather than executed, when:
- it is saved with Save instead of Execute on the Device App;
- a work order is created on Bulk create with a container number, a load type and a Zone: TrakIT plans the gate-in move of its container.
Once a day, TrakIT deletes the planned moves that were added more than seven days earlier and are still not executed. For how planned moves fit into a yard’s work, see Plan the moves.
Choose the yard and the tab
Section titled “Choose the yard and the tab”The list at the top of the page offers the container yards that have at least one zone and belong to a company you have access to. System administrators see every container yard. TrakIT remembers the yard you choose, also for Yard moves, Yard inventory and Yard trucks.
The moves are on three tabs, by kind of move. You see only the tabs your role allows (see Who can use this page), and TrakIT opens the page on the tab you used last. Changing the tab clears the filters.
The Move Type filter of each tab offers its move types. The Move column of the list spells some of them differently, as shown below.

Section titled “The list”The list shows 20 moves per page, the earliest planned first. If none match, it shows No planned moves found.

Yard move data fields are set up under Admin > Masters > Data Fields, on the Yard Moves tab. A field appears here when its Display box is ticked.
Export the list
Section titled “Export the list”Select Export to download the planned moves of the tab that match the filters, on all pages, as an Excel file. It has the columns Move ID, Container, Planned (the date only), Type, Move, Zone, Bay, Row, WO (a link to the work order), Services, the job reference and Planned By, followed by one column for every active yard move data field.
Export and Import appear only when the list has at least one move.
Change zones and positions from Excel
Section titled “Change zones and positions from Excel”You can change the planned zone, bay and row of many moves at once: export them, change the file and import it with Import Moves Updates.
- Choose the yard and the tab, and filter the list down to the moves to change.
- Select Export and open the file in Excel.
- Change the Zone, Bay or Row of the moves to change.
- Fill each cell you changed with the standard yellow (Yellow under Standard Colors in Excel). TrakIT reads only the yellow cells.
- Save the file as an Excel workbook (.xlsx).
- Back on the page, select Import.
- In Import Moves Updates, choose the file. Keep it within the File Size Limit of 1 MB.
- Select Upload.
TrakIT says You will receive import results by email. and updates the moves in the background. The moves stay planned: the import changes the plan, not where the containers are. Only the planned moves of the yard selected at the top of the page are changed.
What the file must contain
Section titled “What the file must contain”- TrakIT reads the first worksheet. Its first row holds the column headings; each row below it is one move.
- These columns are required: Move ID (or ID), Zone, Bay (or B) and Row (or R). If one is missing, no move is updated. The file you export has them all.
- Other columns are ignored, as is every column after the first empty heading.
- Only the rows with at least one yellow cell in Zone, Bay or Row are processed, and in them only the yellow cells.
| Column | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Move ID | The move’s number, as exported. Do not change it. |
| Zone | A zone of the yard selected at the top of the page: its code, its name, or both as code - name. |
| Bay, Row | A number, with or without a leading B or R, for example 12 or B12. It must be within the bays and rows set up for the zone. |
The results email
Section titled “The results email”The email Import Yard Move gives the number of rows processed, updated, unchanged and rejected, then each rejected row with its row number and the reason, for example:
| Reason | What to do |
|---|---|
| Invalid Zone: zone | The zone does not exist in the selected yard. Check its spelling, or select the right yard before importing. |
| More than one records found for Zone: zone | Several zones of the yard match. Enter the zone’s code, or code - name. |
| Invalid Bay or Invalid Row | Enter a number. |
| Bay must be in range 1 to n or Row must be in range 1 to n | Enter a bay or row that exists in the zone. |
| Not a planned move of this yard | The move has been executed since you exported the list, or it is a move of another yard. Remove the row, or select the yard the file was exported from before importing. |
If no row has a yellow cell, the email says Nothing to upload. If the first worksheet is empty, it says Worksheet is empty.
