Yard operations

The Yard Operations screen of the mobile app is where yard and gate staff work on a container yard from a phone or tablet. It lists the moves planned in one yard, by kind of move, and the moves already carried out, and it starts new moves: containers coming in or going out at the gate, moves inside the yard, and work on containers and their cargo.

To open it, select Yard Ops in the mobile app’s menu, or its tile on the home page. See Using the mobile app. On a computer, Yards > Device App opens the same screens: see Device app. For a yard’s work from start to finish, see Running a yard.

The list at the top of the screen offers the container yards that have at least one zone and belong to a company you have access to. System administrators see every container yard. If you have only one yard, the list is greyed out.

TrakIT remembers the yard you choose for your next visit. New moves you start here are made in that yard. The gate, rail and cargo screens show the yard’s name next to their title.

The moves are on four tabs. TrakIT opens the screen on the tab you used last.

Tab Shows Buttons
Gate Planned gate-in and gate-out moves, by truck or by rail. Truck In, Truck Out, Rail In/Out
Equipment Planned moves of containers inside the yard. Add Move
Cargo Planned work on containers and their cargo. Add Move
History Moves already carried out, of every kind. None

The three planned tabs show the oldest planned move first. A move leaves them when it is carried out, and then appears on History.

Containers expected to come into the yard or to leave it: Gate-In and Gate-Out moves, by truck and by rail.

  • Truck In opens Gate in for a container arriving by truck.
  • Truck Out opens Gate out for a container leaving by truck.
  • Rail In/Out opens Rail in / out, to gate several containers in or out of a train at once.

Containers to move inside the yard: In-Stack, On-Truck, To Customs, For Repair, To CFS and Reposition moves. Add Move opens Equipment move.

Work to do on containers and their cargo: Stuffing, Stripping, Cargo Inspection, Status Change, Weighing, Stuff Partial, Strip Partial, Cleaning, Reefer Plugged, Reefer Unplugged and Seal Confirmation moves. Add Move opens Cargo ops.

The moves carried out in the yard, newest first, whatever their kind. Moves that were cancelled after they were carried out are listed too: open one to see who cancelled it. To cancel or correct an executed move, use the Yard move page on a computer.

Each move is a card:

Part of the card Shows
Title The move type, then the zone and, if the move has one, the position, for example In Stack - Empties B3-R1.
Top right If the move is linked to a work order: WO: and the work order’s ID, and the job reference.
Right The workflow of the linked work order.
Container The container or truck number, and a badge with its length: red for 40 feet.
Badges The direction (IMP, EXP or Other) and Full or Empty.
Executed On executed moves: when the move was carried out, in your time zone, and by whom (System for a move TrakIT made itself).

The card spells some move types differently from the Move Type filter, for example Gate In for Gate-In, Cargo Inspected for Cargo Inspection and ReeferIn for Reefer Plugged. The same spellings are listed on Yard planning.

Select a card to open the move on its screen:

Move Opens
Gate-In Gate in
Gate-Out Gate out
A planned rail move saved with Save All on Rail In/Out Rail in / out, with all the containers saved with it
In-Stack, On-Truck Equipment move
Stuffing, Stripping, Cargo Inspection, Status Change, Weighing, Stuff Partial, Strip Partial, Cleaning, Seal Confirmation Cargo ops

On a planned move, you can change it and save it again, or carry it out; the gate, rail and cargo screens also have a bin icon to delete it. An executed move opens read-only: its screen shows its Move ID, when it was carried out and by whom. A rail move already carried out opens on Gate in or Gate out, like a truck move.

  1. Select Search to open the search panel.
  2. Choose or enter the filters you need.
  3. Select Search.

Next to Search, the panel’s heading shows how many moves were found, for example (Found 12). The list shows at most 100 moves: with more, it says (Showing Top 100 only), so narrow the filters. While a filter is in use, the heading shows (Filter Applied) in red, and Clear appears next to Search: select it to clear the filters.

TrakIT remembers your filters for your next visit. The Move Type filter is remembered for each tab.

Filter Finds
Zone The moves of one zone of the yard, or – All –.
Container / job reference Any part of the container number, or of the job reference of the work order linked to the move. The label ends with your company’s short name for the job reference, for example Container / T/D.
Direction Import, Export or Other, or – All –.
Full/Empty Full Only or Empty Only, or – All –.
Move Type One move type of the tab, or — for all of them. On the Gate, Equipment and Cargo tabs, the list offers the move types your role allows (see Who can use this page); on History, every move type.
Linked WO Only Tick it to show only the moves linked to a work order.

The circular arrow next to the buttons (Refresh) reloads the list, for example to see moves that colleagues have just saved.

  1. Check that the yard at the top is the one you are working in.
  2. Open the tab of the kind of move.
  3. Select the button: Truck In, Truck Out or Rail In/Out on Gate, or Add Move on Equipment and Cargo.

A container can have only one planned move of each type in a yard. If it already has one, the move screen says A planned move for this container already exists: open that move from its tab instead.

If the screen cannot open, the mobile app shows an error screen with a title and, in red, a detail. See In the mobile app.
